In the course of the last few years, the topic of entrepreneurship and succession has considerably gained importance. This can also be seen in a downright boom in founding in Austria. In 2005, almost 280,000 people (5.3% of the adult population) were concerned with founding activities. According to founding statistics of the Austrian Economic Chamber, more than 30,000 people were on the way to independent entrepreneurship in 2006.

It is the aim of the International Survey on Collegiate Entrepreneurship (ISCE 2006) that was launched in 2006, to investigate entrepreneurial activities and founding plans of university students for the first time on an international level.
